Tbilisi weekend getaway

This July we decided to get away for a long weekend with some friends in Tbilisi, Georgia. This was planned very quickly to be both a random place where most people's response when we tell them we are going is “why”, and also easy for our group to get to (not entirely true: Tbilisi had been on our hitlist for a while, and we knew it was well-known as a bit of a hidden gem)
While there are no direct flights from Geneva to Tbilisi, the flights on Lufthansa via Munich were easy and affordable although admittedly still pricey at...

Hellfest done Right

This year (2023) I decided to go to Hellfest again after having gone in 2022 and realising that it is a fantastically dun festival and fully deserves to be rated as one of Europe's best festivals.
Last year we drove over from Switzerland with an overnight stay on the way there and a long drive on the way back. This was ok, but it was long, a bit expensive anyway, and by the time we got there camping places were few and far away from the festival site.
So this year I decided I wanted to do it a little...

I continued my trip through the Caribbean with a final and longest leg of the trip which was 1 week in Guadeloupe. For this part of the trip I would again have a car and would be doing a French course each week day that I was there and then sight seeing in the afternoon/evenings and on the weekend before I fly home.
The journey for this part of the trip started with me going to Ferry terminal in Dominica to get the ferry to Guadeloupe. As appose to the last ferry that I took this one was a lot...

Caribbean adventures Pt. 1: 26 hours in Barbados
It was an early start to the day with a 7am flight from Geneva to London on BA. Thankfully Vanessa didn’t complain and was super kind enough to drop me at the airport rather than us doing some convoluted thing with the car so she could get it later.
The Geneva side of things was uneventful and I was soon in London with a 4 hour transit until my next flight. Off to the lounge where I grabbed a little food, a drink and then settled in to read my book and...

Heli Ski weekend in Romania?

This year we decided to try and book another heliski trip as it is so much fun and Vanessa has missed out each time I did it in the past.
When thinking of ski locations, Romania is probably not one of the first to come to mind, especially if you are then thinking of heliski as well. But I have been receiving the brochure from HeliSki Romania (HELISKI Romania - home page) for a while now and we really wanted to give this team and the ski area at Muntele Mic and the vast mountains outside...

Family Train Trip to Prague

For Easter 2022 we decided to take a trip to Prague with the children by train directly from home in St-Cergue.
We love taking train trips and have taken a few epic ones over the years, so when we thought about a trip to Prague we looked to see if there was a way to get to there by train. It just so happens that there is in fact a direct sleeper train from Zurich to Prague operated by the Czech railway company. The tickets are only released 60 days before the journey and for popular weekends they sell out...

In these final weeks of school holidays and still in the time of Covid we decided to go on a family (plus friends) camping trip to Feldkirch in Austria.
We had a fantastic week with some greet friends and even though our original plan was to go without our kids and have an adult week away our plans were changed at the last minute and the kids came too.
As you can see from the photo above we packed everything, a huge 7x7.5m tent, kitchen cabinet, stove, table and chairs, webber bbq, air mattresses, storage cabinets, bikes, child trailer and...

Having lived in the mountains for a while now we have found that on the full moon in the winter it is very bright. You can see as if it was dawn or dusk (and sometimes even brighter than that). We had also heard that you can go out snow showing to a couple of restaurants in the evenings out across the snow.
This weekend we decided to do this with friends and it was a great experience. We rented our racquets in Les Rousse at a resonable EUR 7 per day and headed for Le Trelasse near...

In 2014 my wife and I decided to do the Tour do Mont Blanc. It is an ambitious trail that takes you through many mountain passes during a 170km hike. You cross through three countries and witness some fabulous views along what is often a 10 day hike.
It is no easy hike and the preperation can be just as hard as the walk itself.
There are some invaluable resourses out there that you should read and or buy if you are also looking to do the walk.
