Hellfest done Right

This year (2023) I decided to go to Hellfest again after having gone in 2022 and realising that it is a fantastically dun festival and fully deserves to be rated as one of Europe's best festivals.

Last year we drove over from Switzerland with an overnight stay on the way there and a long drive on the way back. This was ok, but it was long, a bit expensive anyway, and by the time we got there camping places were few and far away from the festival site.

So this year I decided I wanted to do it a little different. I booked flights on EasyJet, which were pretty cheap, between Geneva and Nantes and also I got myself an easycamp ticket. We booked the transfers from the airport but these were not as frequent as we would have liked from the airport to the festival and for the price of three of us in the transfer, we could have got a taxi. The transfer on the way back was a large bus.

The easy camp is definitely the way to go to this festival if you can. You have a separate fenced off area for the camp close to the main camping entrace and very close to the festival entrance. The tents are already set up for you and come with a small towel, shower gels, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, camp chair and battery powered lantern. This means that you are only flying with the clothing you need for the weekend.

Also withing the easycamp area there is a toilet block that is just for the easycamp people and a shower block as well, which is open all night. There are no lines for these as they have ample amount for the size of the easycamp.

There is also a couple of food trucks, eating area, lounging area and power points to charge devices.

In all, it is a comfortable and convenient way to go to the festival and definitely worth the cost when shared (each tent is for 2 people and then there are larger options available as well).

In General, things I liked about Hellfest and why I think it is a great festival.

  • Great lineup

  • Well laid out stages and site plan. It is easy to get from stage to stage to maximise what you see

  • Plenty of toilets, cleaned often

  • Loads of water points to refill water

  • Easy to accee and plentiful bars to purchase drinks

  • Great selection of food

  • Amazing atmosphere

  • Cashless payments work seamlessly

  • Shade and rest areas all over the grounds

Its not perfect though

  • There were plenty of phone thefts in the mosh pits

  • Too many people with large bags in front of all stages (even in the mosh pits)

  • Tickets sell out too fast.

Maybe I will see some of you there in the future and definitely in the easycamp for me.
